VISUAL ART

Hi everyone, this is my Art blog. Those ideas I mentioned below are what I will have in my portfolio.
The main point I think it is interesting for myself is Vietnamese places.
I want to show someone who doesn't know about them by using this idea to create my artwork.
I just want from my ideal posted in my portfolio people can understand Vietnam
And I'm glad to share with everyone about more information about the country through drawing.

Art History :

This is a picture which painted in 1872 by Claude Monet and it’s called “Impression, Sunrise”. The painting is 48 cm x 63 cm. He has painted this picture on canvas by using oil paint but he also used pastels and take his sketchbook. During many years, it has been shown and admired as the perfect symbol of the Impressionist Movement. Monet had used the basic of the painting techniques to his painting like broken colors to show the feeling of itself. He used a few colours in his painting, limited using black colors and by 1886, he didn’t use black colors anymore. The painting became the inspiration of Claude Monet and which he created when he came to the port of Le Havre in the Northwest of France in 1872 in the sunset. It concentrated on the calm feeling of a mist with a light blue color. Near the center of the painting, we can see a small boat with two people are difficult to see, moves through the air slowly. The sunrise with oranges and yellow is described over the foggy harbor with ships and others of boats at the port. Also, we can see the shadows of the boats and the ray of the sun in the water surface by some sparkling blue dark in the sea. The most important part of “Impression”: Monet doesn't use the traditional rules of composition in order to highlight the sunrise. The sea has been included more than the sky and the nature of the water that means the sea shows the features of the sky above it. Look at the sun, the light of it is soft and is shown as an optical light across the water surface. The smoke of the factories, ships with the rays of the sun creates a kind of beauty that is both surprising and pretty. Claude Monet said how to describe the feeling of a scene that when we painted, we had to try to forget the objects in front of us and to paint how we saw it, especially what you see in the objects such as color and shapes which give your own impression of the scene. Monet used loose brushstrokes to make the foggy appear because he didn't want everyone who enjoys his painting just focus on the place. In the "Impression, Sunrise", his brushstrokes can be seen almost. The textures he used was similar to the way that I want to do to my work. Actually there are some things that I need to learn and improve them in my work. For example, the background Monet used they were 2 colors, I guess, are dark blue, orange. He mixed them up together to make the picture smooth and realistic. So I try to learn how to add 2 colors in the background together. It isn't as hard as you think but you have to make sure these colors have connection or something like the bright mark in your painting.

This art history helps me to know more about how to paint something, especially to paint places in real life.
Also, it helps me can identify details of the things around me and can be creative for my art works.

My new artist model :

Claude Lorrain is dreamy person. When he draws somethings, he puts himself into the place. Therefore, his paintings are reality and visuality.

Claude Lorrain was also a French painter. He travelled to Italy to study and was a leading landscape painter in that country during his lifetime. His inspiration drawing is from the shape and features of the countryside around Rome but his paintings were imaginary compositions. Claude Lorrain painted lightly and lively for his pictures by making some details hidden away in his paintings. I think that his paintings are based on what he loved the actual study of nature. He had the same in using colours as Claude Monet and the main colours are actually light and bright.

Forest + Buildings in Vietnam:

So, I have to say this is my first time using my pencil to create them.
I actually just used pencil for sketching and drawing some lines and nothing else.
I remember that my teacher told me how to use for painting my work.
She said that I had to draw what I see, not drawing what I think.
At first, I couldn't understand the meaning of that as I thought that I was right and so that was why I got failed !!
Then, I was trying to practice with the pencil ( of course I draw what I see ) many times. Finally, it was working.

So that, I can have the picture (above) to show you my result.

This picture is Thien Mu Pagoda in Vietnam. It is a historic temple in the city of Hue city.
It's located at the end of Kim Long Road, in Huong Long Ward, on the northern bank of the Perfume River.
Vietnam is popular of history about old building and Thien Mu Pagoda is one of the examples.
It was truly created in 45 minutes with a pencil.

The next picture is about the scene of countryside in Vietnam. You can see it when you come to small cities which are quite deserted and near river. There are some houses around there which peasants like living in as the places are quite and peaceful.

Those paintings I drew are about places in Vietnam. They are made an impression on me at first sight so I tried to sketch the shapes of pictures and some of them I was painting with some colors that I think they closed to the things in reality. I want to make sure that the pictures are really like in a way what the viewers can clearly recognize.

I used Anne of Green Gables Colors ( https://www.color-hex.com/color-palette/82251 ). For me, I really like those colors because they are light and easy to mix them up together.

In Vietnam, I am proud of  some places that UNESCO that recognizes such as Ha Long Bay (1994), the third picture in the first vertical line depicts Ha Long Bay, or Complex of Hue Monuments (1993)

This is my drawing of Ha Long Bay with a pencil. It is a different side of this location from the drawing above. The pencil makes the picture more nature and reflects the shadow of the things. A sea in a real life is smooth, flat and have some dark views of the things onto them. Therefore, you can see that I spray ''foggy'' things into the surface area of the sea.

I use 2 colours : orange and green to make a background. When I finished painting colours, I use a pen to create some textures into the picture. Orange colour at the top is a sky evening, the green colour depicts mountains behind a Hoan Kiem building. This building is one of small temples in Vietnam. In history, we have a story about the Hoan Kiem which is when was it built. The story is about there was a "Gold" turtle gave a power sword to a king to attack enemies. Then, after killing all of the enemies, in order to commemorate that Gold turtle, the king ordered to make a building and took 'Hoan Kiem' (which means the power sword') as a name of the place.

Lithography :

My class was going to do some worksheets by using some plates which is used in Lithography process.
Actually, I tried to draw some figures from my theme - Vietnamese places.

Last Friday in term 3, I chose flower and tried to make it better by using some methods in Lithography.
When I finished it, I asked my teacher to help me for printing and to give me some feedback about my work.
I have tried 3 times to get it better that I want for my worksheet.

This flower we known as lotus flower (Nymphaea nelumbo). In Vietnamese, the flower is called 'Hoa Sen'. Hoa Sen is a symbolic flower in Vietnam because it is symbolized as the beauty of the country. You can see the lotus flower when you travel by Vietnam Airline plane of Vietnam.

This result relate to the style of the artist model - Claude Lorrain.
His paintings are focused on the details and those are hidden in the painting.
They are really amazing and I am trying to catch up his style for my work to make them impressive.

I seem to almost finish the board 1 of my portfolio. Although some of them changed to others, I make sure that every works have connection together. These paintings are about landscapes which are taken basic colours consist of green, blue, brown, gray from pencil drawing and sketching, black from pen sketching and textures. They comprise of buildings, mountains and trees which are included in every landscape painting.

This is Ha Long Bay which is located about 130 km east of Hanoi - in northern Viet Nam. It is one of position that is recognised by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1994 and taken photo with different side. It is known for its aqua-green water; cluster of limestone rocky outcrops rising and lush forest. The island is truly one of the prettiest places in Vietnam and the most visited one as well.

This is my last board of portfolio. Some of paintings are not strong as the other ones even though the colours of those are around the basic colours (green, blue, yellow, red...). I can use the lotus flower from the lithography to put into the painting of a sunrise (the first picture in the line 2) as it's going to be better if it has something different from others. Another way is using the black ink or black pen to drawing the boats in the background space ( the second painting in the line 2 ). I choose the light color tones to the background to make the dark color pop out more. My artist model - Claude Lorrain, drawing actual landscapes and making people feel that they are in those places. I just imitate his style to my paintings and it's about 50% or 60% of succeed.
